Sonoma County Sheriff’s Press Releases

On Saturday 09/26/2009 at approximately 3:40 PM, the flight crew of Sheriff’s helicopter “Henry-One” responded to a report of a “mountain biker down” somewhere on the North Burma Trail at Annadel State Park.

The “Henry One” crew arrived on scene and was able to quickly locate the unattended patient, a 22-year-old Santa Rosa man, laying on the bike trail, not moving. The Sheriff’s helicopter crew directed additional Fire and EMS personnel to the correct trail and eventually to the injured patient.

After a ground paramedic made contact with the patient, he requested a rescue and transport to the closest trauma facility, based on the nature of the patient’s injuries. Due to the remote location of the patient, his serious injuries and the sweltering heat, the “Henry-One” crew performed a long-line rescue of the patient.

The patient was secured onto a backboard and then secured into a “Stokes basket.” The patient and a “Henry-One” tactical flight officer were then flown together off the rugged trail, via a 100-foot long-line attached to the belly of the helicopter, to a near-by landing area. The patient was then loaded into the helicopter and flown, along with the ground paramedic, from the scene to Santa Rosa’s Memorial Hospital.

This is just another example of “Henry-One’s” skilled pilot and crew working well with EMS agencies to direct needed emergency resources to patients and then being able to expedite advanced life saving care for injured parties in isolated areas of our County.
