Sonoma County Sheriff’s Press Release

On 11/27/09 at approximately 1440 hrs, The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office was notified of three teenagers who were stuck on a cliff just north of the walk on beach at The Sea Ranch. Upon arrival deputies found that two 17-year-old males and a 13-year-old male had been hiking on the beach when they were cut off from land by the rising tide. All three boys tried to climb the cliffs to safety but fell into the rough waters. One of the older boys and the 13-year-old managed to self-rescue themselves by climbing up a cliff. The third boy was unable to access the cliff due to the rough conditions. He was found floundering in the ocean by his father and a passerby. Rescuers threw the youth a dog leash and managed to pull him to the base of the cliff. The youth managed to pull himself halfway up the cliff but was too tired to continue. Members of the Sea Ranch Fire Department and Cal Fire managed to lower a harness to the boy and lifted him to safety. All three youths were treated and released at the scene. The family is believed to be visiting from Pleasant Hill.
